3 Ways To Add Renewable Energy To Your Home With A Roof Replacement

Maykel Sloothaak

Eventually, it is likely that you are going to have to replace the roof on your home, which you can choose from many different materials. This can include products that are designed for energy improvements to your home, such as insulated rigid decking or even solar panels for renewable energy. If you want to add renewable energy to your home when you have a new roof installed, here are some of the options that you may want to consider:

1. Consider An Integrated Solar Water Heater For Your Roof

Hot water in your home can be supplied by features you add to your roof with an integrated solar water heater. This type of system uses a collector that heats the water with sunlight, which can then be used by different mechanicals. In addition to hot water, the more efficient solar water heaters can also be used by heating systems. To integrate it into your roof design, the panels can be recessed into the roof.

2. Installing Wind Energy With Your Roof Installation Or Replacement

Wind energy can be another option that you want to consider for your roofing project. When you think about wind turbines, you may be thinking about having an old windmill installed on your rooftop. Today, with modern designs, there are many choices when it comes to turbines. You may want to consider having a vertical turbine installed inside a cupola. You can also use smaller vertical designs at the edges of your roof, which can be good for contemporary designs.

3. Adding Solar Panel Arrays Integrated Into Your New Roofing

Another option you may want to consider for renewable energy is a solar panel array, which use panels to produce electricity. Rather than the conventional panels that are mounted on racking, today, you can also choose from roofing materials that have solar panels integrated into them. This can be good for a smaller solar energy system and give you a solution that does not affect the aesthetics of your home.  These panels can be integrated into materials such as metal or synthetic roofing panels. There is also the option of using solar roofing membranes on flat roofs and surfaces.

These are some of the options you may want to consider for renewable energy when you have a new roof installed. You can contact a roofing contractor and talk with them about some of these ideas to give your home energy when you have a new roof installed.
